Not as good as last time - but still okay. And I changed around all the hues (on photoshop) to make them look a bit nicer… pity I still only really have had enough time to use one colour during the pose. I should probably try and use a couple of colours in the longer poses, because looking back at past ones, it makes a huge difference.

Arthouse Life Drawing 31/10/11

Trying out my new Sakura Koi Waterbrushes - I haven't done much work at all with watercolour (particularly under time pressure - these were all <15mins) so there's loads of room for improvement, but I'm happy with the effect on the whole. Loads more fun that just ink/pencil, so I think I might try to keep practicing with this medium. Unfortunately it means I have to spend less time on the detail/proportions... so it's a little off on a few.

Looking at the sketches from my first life drawing sessions compared to now (I'm particularly fond of the first two in this set), I feel I've made a pretty decent improvement - and I can definitely notice a difference when I go for a few weeks in a row. Just goes to show how much of drawing is just practice.

Illustration Friday - "Obsession"

Home visited a family this week (looking at postnatal care) who lived in a tiny little apartment, but had this huuuge big aquarium taking up half of their living room. Makes you realise that people have interesting obsessions (although collecting pretty fish seems fairly harmless as far as obsessions go).

I think I need more non-nude sources of art inspiration, this page has a lot of nakedness.

..So my current project is playing project runway with $55 worth of vinnies attire - sitting inside and sewing is a perfect activity for the chilly Canberra weather.

My favourite items would probably be two pencil skirts (one yellow, one mustard, $5 ea) and the silk button up dress (that's going to be a pain to take up).

Haven't done any art in a while - hoping to get going to some more Arthouse Hotel life drawing sessions on Monday nights. But to make up for it, here are some of my favourite shots from my months spend in South-East Asia (Vietnam and Cambodia) during my Summer break. Good to relive some memories!

Illustration Friday - "Dusty"

My illo for this week's theme - "dusty" - is what I saw of the crazy Sydney dust storms we had in September last year. I woke up strangely early, and my whole room was bright red. I was still half asleep, went to the window, couldn't understand what I was seeing and at first thought it must be something wrong with my eyesight, and so, in that confused state, decided to go back to sleep. If only I'd gotten my camera and taken some photos like so many others - it was such a surreal experience.

So this week's illustration friday topic "chicken" immediately made me think of the Bluths from Arrested Development, and their various amazing chicken impersonations:

However, finding it hard to capture their chicken dances in art form, I did probably the most uninspired illo so far - of a chicken. Just standing there, being a little cool.
